How it's calculated
- Size tier is determined first, from your packaged dimensions and unit weight — this single factor drives your entire fulfillment cost.
- Shipping weight = the greater of unit weight and dimensional weight (L × W × H ÷ 139), plus packaging weight (0.25 lb standard-size, 1 lb oversize), rounded up to the next rate band.
- Referral fee = a percentage of the total selling price set by category, with a $0.30 minimum per item. Some categories are tiered, so each portion of the price is billed at its own rate.
- Fulfillment fee comes from the official rate card for your size tier and shipping weight. Items priced under $10 qualify for Low-Price FBA, cutting $0.77 per unit.
- Monthly storage fee = (L × W × H ÷ 1728) cubic feet × the monthly rate, which roughly triples in the October–December peak.
- Net profit = selling price − product cost − inbound shipping − advertising − all Amazon fees. ROI = net profit ÷ product cost.
Frequently asked questions
Does this calculator use real Amazon fees?+
Yes. Every rate comes from Amazon's published US fee schedule effective 15 April 2024, which Amazon confirmed would carry into 2025 without referral or FBA fee increases. The full referral fee table is printed on the referral fee page so you can check any category yourself.
Why is my size tier bigger than I expected?+
A unit fails a tier if it breaks any single limit — length, width, height or weight. A very thin item can still be Large standard if it exceeds 15 × 12 × 0.75 inches, and that jump alone can add a dollar or more per unit.
What is dimensional weight and when does it apply?+
Dimensional weight is L × W × H ÷ 139. Amazon bills the greater of actual and dimensional weight for every tier except Small standard. Light but bulky products are almost always billed on dimensional weight.
Are storage fees included in my profit?+
One month of storage is included in the breakdown. If your inventory typically sits longer, multiply that line accordingly, or use the dedicated storage fee calculator for a full-year view including peak season.
What isn't included here?+
Long-term storage surcharges, aged inventory surcharges, removal and disposal fees, returns processing, and the $39.99 monthly Professional selling plan. Add those separately when modelling a whole catalogue.
