How it's calculated
- Volume per unit = L Γ W Γ H Γ· 1728, converting cubic inches to cubic feet.
- Standard-size inventory is billed $0.78 per cubic foot from January to September and $2.40 from October to December.
- Oversize inventory is billed $0.56 per cubic foot from January to September and $1.40 from October to December.
- Your size class is decided by the same tier rules as fulfillment: Small and Large standard count as standard-size; Large bulky and every Extra-large tier count as oversize.
- The annual estimate assumes nine months at the off-peak rate and three at the peak rate, holding your quantity constant.
Frequently asked questions
Why do storage fees triple in Q4?+
Amazon prices scarcity. Warehouse space is tightest from October to December, so the per-cubic-foot rate roughly triples for standard-size inventory. Sellers who overstock in September pay for it in Q4.
Is this the same as long-term storage fees?+
No. This is the monthly fee every unit pays. Inventory sitting longer than 271 days also incurs an aged inventory surcharge, which is not included here.
How is my inventory measured?+
Amazon measures the packaged unit as received, then bills on average daily volume across the month β so units that arrive mid-month are billed proportionally.
Can I lower storage costs without holding less stock?+
Often, yes β by shrinking the package. Storage is billed purely on volume, so trimming an inch off the longest side of a large-volume product can cut the bill meaningfully.
